Fashion and Style is something that I am very passionate about, but lately, I have been out of it and not really wanting to do anything that requires effort. Lazy? Yes, but with a valid explanation. Type 2 Diabetes…I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2011. Something was off with my body, as I was gaining weight, always tired and extremely thirsty all the time. I decided to go to the doctor to check it out and see if there was an issue. Well, the test results came back and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes! I wasn’t all that familiar with the disease, but it runs on both sides of my family and my parents both had it. Not really worrying much out of sheer ignorance, I continued to eat as I normally would. I am a person who eats pretty well, but there are things that I love that aren’t so good for me. Well, let’s fast-forward to 2015 (of course I was going to the doctor regularly in between). I went back to the doctor because my diabetes is poorly controlled and found that my A1C went from a 7.4 to a 13.9 from the time I was diagnosed! My vision and limbs are affected and the only way to really get this thing under control is to start insulin. Now, because of the poor control, I am on two types of insulin and three different pills. With insulin, increased activity and a few more changes to my diet, I am making progress…it was the wakeup call that I needed and although, I don’t want to be on all of this medication; I have to do what is necessary to get better. The thought of not being here for my son and my loved ones scares me and I don’t want to be the reason that I did not make it. I hope to reach someone who has the same struggles as I do because it’s not an easy disease to deal with. It takes so much discipline to get it under control. Don’t let ignorance and stubbornness keep you from taking care of your body.
